Ketchers Harbor, Book One
Told Not to Look
The last household manager left in April without giving notice. Her phone charger never left the wall.
The Kindle edition is included with Kindle Unlimited.
Nora Hale keeps the accounts in other people’s houses. In her last job she reported a nephew who was draining his aunt’s bank account, and she left it without a reference. Larkspur House is her way back: a half-renovated inn on the Maine coast, run by Diana Whitfield, a widow who expects discretion.
Her predecessor, Ivy Sorensen, went missing in April. Nora finds what the cleaning missed: a charger still in the outlet behind the nightstand, a ledger that stops partway through an entry, a staff file with nothing in it. The town considers the matter closed, and so do the Whitfields.
The chapters move between Nora, Ivy in the months before she went missing, and the Whitfields’ sixteen-year-old daughter. Told Not to Look is the first Ketchers Harbor novel.
From the book
You can tell a great deal about a household before anyone opens the door. That’s not intuition. It’s just the job.
Chapter 1
I could still turn around. That’s a lie I tell myself in the shape of a comfort. The causeway closed nine minutes ago.
Chapter 1
Somebody cleaned this room the way you clean a room when you want it to stop being someone’s.
